Why Watch Birds in Illinois?
Yes, it's true. We've joined the ranks and have a bird field guide for identifying birds as we see them. And to answer why? There are 800 bird species in N America and over 420 have been sighted in Illinois. This is due to their migrating paths. So while the Cardinal is the state bird, there are hundreds of others known for this area of the country also. We thought we'd share with you some of our sightings with pictures..... And well, if we can't get a good shot, we can only tell you about them. Some of those thus far include: cardinals, house finches (also red), turkey vultures, red-winged blackbirds, and owls.
